This is going to be short -or at least I think it's going to be- because this is just a short rant on something that was really irking me for awhile.
You can probably guess from the title what I'm going to say in this post: disrespect to book lovers.
There are different variations on how disrespectful one can be towards a book lover, but today I'm just going to focus on one. The Why-Do-You-Read-So-Many-Books-It's-Weird-and-Not-Normal guy.
Yes. These people exasperate me the most. I can ignore full-on rudeness such as jeering and the like but I just cannot stand when people say things like:

Yes. These people exasperate me the most. I can ignore full-on rudeness such as jeering and the like but I just cannot stand when people say things like:
"Why do you have a different book to read every two days? You're crazy."
"Why do you spend so much money on books? That's just wasting money."
"Why do you have so many copies of the same book? Do you have so much money?"
"You're ALWAYS reading. That's stupid."

To be honest I can understand why people get confused when I buy more than one copy of the same book. But for the rest?
For people who don't love and embrace reading, I'd like to make one point clear for you. I, as a book lover, will try to surround myself with books almost all of the time. I like to make my reading an everyday habit. Reading and books are both very important to me and they play a crucial role in making my life enjoyable. I like to take my books with me to school for more reading time.
And you shouldn't be dissing me because of my priorities.
It isn't weird if you think about it. I just really like reading as much as you like texting. It's not abnormal to want to be constantly reading. Reading is just something that I find comforting and pleasurable, and it's definitely not a waste of money because you can learn and gain a lot of things from reading.
That's it for my rant today. I didn't really get much into detail because I didn't want anyone getting offended. I really hope that the disrespect for book lovers will lessen and that my point was gotten across. What are your thoughts? Share them in the comments! I hope you have a great day, and happy reading!
