As you all know from my intial post, one of my goals for Bout of Books 11 is to enter as much challenges as I can! There's no hard pressure; I'm only entering challenges that I think I'm able to complete and most of all, that I have fun in them! I've already taken part in the Bout of Books Scavenger Hunt, so without further ado, the challenge that I'm participating in today is...
Like This, Try This hosted by Writing My Own Fairy Tale!
The rules for this challenge are simple:
- You must recommend a book based on another book, movie, tv show, etc similar to this: “If you liked _____, you should try _____ because _____.”
- Any genre and reading level is fine and you may use any set-up you like, so long as you’re recommending a book based on something else and explaining why.
- Post your recommendation wherever you are posting your read-a-thon updates.
- The challenge and giveaway will be open for 24 hours from midnight CST to midnight CST Thursday, August 21.
This challenge is a good way to let more people know about the books on my this-book-is-so-good shelf on Goodreads, and I'm excited to recommend you a book that I liked!
So now for my own recommendation to you guys...
(clicking on the book titles will take you to Goodreads)
If you liked...
...Anna and the French Kiss, you may also love...
...Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell!
Sorry if that was sort of a bummer. I know that A LOT of people have already read Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell and LOVED it. Well, I do know that there are also readers out there who are hesitant or haven't picked up this book yet. If you haven't, you should! Because, why not? The title's AWESOME. It's one of those titles which I see in a bookstore and I want it. Immediately. Because what more can you expect from a book titled Fangirl? If you're a fangirl, then odds are, you will love and totally relate to this book, as did I and multitudinous readers.
As readers who've already read both books will tell me, "But Kat! The stories are not that alike!" It's true that both books have their own distinctive differences in plot, characterization, and so on when you think about it. However, I associated one book with the other because the protagonists in both stories are uncomfortable about leaving their parents and starting a new life -alone. Whereas Anna deals with romance, Cath is more about learning to grow up without her parent(s)' or her sister's help, but what they have the most in common is the sweet, fluffy romance, which makes me go "Awww!" every time. Anna and the French Kiss and Fangirl are two books which I would go to whenever I'm feeling down, in a book slump, or just hankering for some cutesy romance!
There were a few things that I didn't particularly agree with other readers in this book but still, this book is a keeper. Cath, the protagonist in the story, is a fangirl. (Duh.) But here's the best part: she writes fanfiction that tons of people reads, which makes her cool and also sort of famous, in a way. It also made me fall in love with her, because I adore people who write fanfiction. (She also inspired me to write my own fanfiction...which I'm currently working on!)
This is just a small outlook on Fangirl. To get all the good parts and the bad ones, you have to read the book. So, dear readers who haven't read it yet, kill that sceptical thought and cross Fangirl off your TBR list now!
