Yes, here comes the unavoidable thing, SLAM BAM, right in your face. It hurts like a wound that has never healed, and whenever I want to go on a book haul, this ugly, hateful...thing, comes right up to me, pats me gently on the back, and says, "Another time, okay?"
And while you can grumble on how you had to pay $20 for a hardcover, I have to pay thrice the amount of that for the same book so it's no wonder that I can't have all my books in hardcover. Plus, our local bookstores don't sell a lot of hardcovers due to it being more expensive. Therefore, if I want a book that is just released in hardcover, I have to go to Amazon or another online store to purchase the book for twice the amount of a paperback when converted to local currency, and with all the additional shipping prices that can sometimes cost waaaaay more than the book itself,
A few books that I have in hardcover:
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling No explanation necessary. Harry Potter deserves to have a hardcover spot on my bookshelf, but because it was of high demand, I bought the book at a much lower price! | Jacky Daydream by Jacqueline Wilson Jacky Daydream was one of my first hardcover books I had as a kid. Although I can only vaguely remember the outline of the story, I am certain of how much I loved reading it though! |
The Scorch Trials by James Dashner | City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare | The Infernal Devices trilogy by Cassandra Clare |
I found the hardcover of The Scorch Trials sold at a very cheap price at my bookstore one day, a price I never expected to see at a local bookstore for a hardcover -a real bargain! | If you don't know, I love The Mortal Instruments. And if you also don't know, City of Heavenly Fire was released right on my birthday -much to my intense delight! | When I saw that the trilogy was sold in first edition, I didn't hesitate. First edition books are REALLY hard to find at my local bookstore, so immediately, I made a lunge for the boxset like a lion to its prey. |
Allegiant by Veronica Roth | The Shadowhunter's Codex by Cassandra Clare | And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini |
This book, which I ordered from Amazon along with The Shadowhunter's Codex, was held up from the wrapping amid flares of light and devoured in two days. | One thing I loved about this book is the illustration. THEY ARE SO PRETTY. | While I didn't enjoy And The Mountains Echoed as much as I did The Kite Runner, it was one of those books that had me overwhelmed when I finished it. It got me thinking about how lucky I was to have a nice and normal family. |
Silver Shadows by Richelle Mead I was so happy to find Silver Shadows on the shelves of my local bookstore one or two months after the release, in hardcover! So of course I bought it, and of course I loved it. The story was every bit as intense and engrossing as the past installments in the series! I also have The Fiery Heart in hardcover but since the story of how I obtained the hardcover copy of it is the same, I figured I'd just mention it here. |
