Hi, guys! Today is the last day of Bout of Books 11.0, which means that it's the last day to speed-read any unfinished books (which I certainly wouldn't recommend!) if you want to include them in your final count for books read in the read-a-thon! But, but, but! It's all about having fun, really. I had tons of fun! Did you?
(Translation: I had fun completing plenty of challenges but didn't get as many books read.)
The last challenge for Bout of Books 11.0!
As Bout of Books 11.0 is ending soon, so are the challenges. Man, I'm sure gonna miss them! But you know what they say -all good things must come to an end, so without further ado, here is the last and final *sniff* challenge for Bout of Books 11.0.
5 Books Challenge
hosted by Falling Down the Book Hole!
In this challenge, you have to choose 5 books to take with you in the given scenario, which is:
It is 11:00 PM on a Sunday night. You are laying in bed thinking about all of the things you must do the next day. Tasks of the coming days consume your thoughts and while your mind is somewhere else you are caught off guard by a flash in the sky that is followed by a large wailing screech that pierces the air and shatters your bedroom window. Slowly you move to the window and what you see catches your breathe and causes you to stumble back a few steps. The aliens (at least you think they are aliens) have began to enter the city and destroy everything that is in their path. Through the window your view is consumed with destruction, screaming people and large flames that are dancing across the city at a fast pace. You notice that the creatures are heading in your direction and you realize you probably have about fifteen minutes before they reach your home. That means you have only about ten minutes to gather your belongings and escape before you are caught in the attack from the aliens invading the city.
Given the short amount of time you are only able to take 5 books with you. What books would you pick to take with you as you escape and prepare for the end of the world? Would you choose books that would help you survive in the post-apocalyptic world ,books for pleasure that would make you happy and take you to a fantasy reality or books that you can’t live without?
Which book would I choose?
The first book that came to mind was The Fifth Wave by Rick Yancey. Because, well, duh. It's a sci-fi novel that fits the above scenario perfectly. Although to say that I didn't really like the book -unpopular opinion here: couldn't get into it at all!- I have to say, there are some survival tips in the book that would be of great help. Therefore, the first book that I would grab off my shelves without a doubt would be The Fifth Wave. |
Second book! I'd go for Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. No time to decide which book in the series! I'll just grab the first book that fits in my hand off the shelf. Hopefully it'll be the one that has the most fighting and fleeing scenes in the series. I'm aware that there are people who haven't read VA yet, so here I'll explain why. Simply put, Rose Hathaway, the female protagonist in the absolutely brilliant VA series, is one of ze most kick-ass and awesome character that I've ever come across. |
For the fourth book, I'd choose the Percy Jackson series, by Rick Riordan! Don't ask me which series. Both are fantastic. Reasons being: 1. Reading Percy would cheer me up. Get my mind away from the alien invasion, y'know. If you've read it, you'd know that the writing is downright hilarious! 2. LOADS of amazing surviving skills and lessons that I could *maybe* look up in the book(s). Don't know how I'd manage it though, being on the run and all. 3. SPOILER ALERT: Percy's been to Tartarus before, so a couple of aliens? No biggie. |
Tick tock, tick tock! The aliens are closing in! Only 1 minute left to grab a last book and RUN FOR MY LIFE!! (Given that my backpack can still handle one more book because I probably did what I said and *tried* to fit all seven HP books into my backpack.)
After a lot of sighing and messing up my hair, getting all exasperated because I DON'T KNOW WHICH BOOK TO CHOOSE -- I would probably go for Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. WHAT?? While people are getting all depressed out there, I'm in here, snuggled up in a cosy, dark hole where nobody will find me, peacefully reading Anna and the French Kiss, and going "awwww!" at all the cutesy parts. And all the while keeping my sanity in check. 'Lil FYI: All my mind could think of these past few days is ISLA AND THE HAPPILY EVER AFTER. Like, I NEED IT. NOW. Because crap, I didn't pre-order it -my fault, I know! Secretly, I was hoping my local bookstore would have it in a few days. Money is tight right now. Forgive me. |
And now my backpack is totally bulging from all the books and little essentials. Just a few, just a few. Got to run now, my ten minutes to pack is all up!
Which books would you choose if you were only given 10 minutes to pack your bag? Tell me in the comments!
